Approximately 404 crore rupees have been allocated for the registration of workers on the e-Shram site. The e-shram portal will serve as a platform for collecting workers' data and information, which will be utilized by the government to develop plans and regulations for labour workers. The applicant can also download, update, cancel and check payment status of their e-Shram labour card likewise. Each labour worker across the country will be classified based on their occupation using their identity card and AADHAAR card. The government will compile a record of labour workers based on this data. The e-Shram portal is anticipated to facilitate the registration of approximately 38 crore labour workers.

To apply for an e-Shram labour card offline, eligible individuals can visit the nearest Common Service Centre (CSC). Click here for list of CSC centres near you. Simply enter the state and district to begin the e-Shram labour card application process. Labour workers are required to carry their AADHAAR card number, mobile number and bank account details along with IFSC code for e-Shram labour card registration.
15 simple steps for free online registration to apply for e-Shram labour card
- Log on to the official e-Shram portal website here.
- On the homepage, click on the "Register on eShram" button (located on the right side of the page).
- In the "Self Registration" page enter your "Mobile Number" which is linked to your AADHAAR card.
- Here you are asked if you are an active member of Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) and/or Employees' State Union Corporation (ESIC). Select Yes or No for both.
- Enter the displayed "Captcha" code and click on the "Send OTP" button. Enter the OTP received on your mobile and click on the "Submit" button to proceed.
- Enter your AADHAAR card number and accept the terms and conditions. Click on the "Submit" button.
- Again an OTP will be sent on the mobile number linked with AADHAAR card. Enter the OTP on this page and click on the "Validate" button.
- Your details as per AADHAAR will appear on the screen. Click on the "Continue to Enter Other Details" button.
- On the next page, fill out your personal details like Mobile Number, Email Address, Marital Status, Blood Group, Nominee Details etc.
- Enter your residential details and work details if you work in a different state. If you reside at a different address than your permanent one, enter your permanent address. Once you have entered all of the necessary information, click on the "Save & Continue" button.
- Next select your educational qualification from the drop down menu. If you have not received any education, select the "Not Literate" option. After that select monthly income from the drop down menu. Finally click on the "Save & Continue' button.
- Next enter your occupational details. Click on the "More Info" symbol next to your primary occupation to check the code of of your occupation and enter the code here. If you have any other occupation then you can enter it on the secondary occupation box. In this section, you should also indicate how you acquired your skills (select whether you have taken any training or not). Finally, click on the "Save & Continue' button.
- Enter your Bank Account details on this page and click on the "Save & Continue" button.
- Submit the form and take a hard copy of the application for future reference.
- After registration on e-Shram portal, each labour worker will get a unique Universal Account Number which is a 12 digits number. UAN number will be a permanent number. The UAN number will remain unchanged for the labour worker's lifetime. Once registration is complete you will see your e-Shram card and an option "Download UAN Card". Download and take a print out of this e-Shram labour card.

If registered mobile is lost can the worker update the mobile number or register another mobile number?
- The labour worker can directly call the helpdesk number and after verifying their credentials, the mobile number on the e-Shram portal website will be updated. Alternatively, they can visit e-Shram portal website or nearest CSC/SSK's to update mobile number. If a labour worker does not have mobile number linked to their AADHAAR card, they can visit a nearest CSC/AADHAAR update centre and register through biometric authentication.
What happens if after registration, the labour worker moves from an unorganized sector to an organized sector?
- The applicant will only get the benefit defined for organized sector workers, as applicable to him/her.
Are there any cash benefits after registration?
- Currently only registration is being done through e-Shram. This data maybe utilized to provide financial assistance to the eligible labour workers.
